A man who contaminated candy with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and an older person became sick at the facility in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the courthouse on Friday.

However, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The defendant was held in detention before a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Sweet game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.

She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he operated.

The defendant engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She said the man had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in July 2025.

The legal representative added: "This year his stepson had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.

"They resolved" to have a look in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor explained objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his family member alerted the police about his concerns.

She explained the man went on to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"The police had not responded by that stage," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.

Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson called the law enforcement once more.

She said the man then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
